At STEPS we provide global standards of care. By having a thorough understanding of the needs of the client we are able to create tailored plans for treatment with well defined goals for discharge. These form the basis of assessing progress and adjustments in treatment plans if required. We use best in class tools that are current and tested for efficacy.

We understand how challenging navigating the spectrum of difficulties that mental health can be. Our Psychiatry and therapy services are rooted in a deep sense of compassion and empathy for the families we work with.

As a full service outpatient clinic there is close coordination between psychiatric and therapeutic interventions with a sense of urgency in helping our clients regain or optimise function. We closely track discharge times and by having clearly defined goals in treatment aspire to help clients complete interventions ahead of plan.

Our areas of specialisation include support services for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Diagnosis and Treatment, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety, Depression, Giftedness and Trauma. We offer cognitive assessments, evaluations for autism and safety risk assessments among others. Parenting interventions include support for divorced, single and adoptive parents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll see some of the top questions people ask about mental health services. We understand that receiving a mental health diagnosis can be unsettling and recognise the immediate distress this could create and are here to help. If you don’t happen to find your question, please contact us at contact@scfmh.com and we will help you get the answer you’re looking for.

There is a proliferation of mental health related information and content in the ecosystem of children (and adults) and consequently higher degrees of awareness and “self-diagnosis”. While parents can sometimes be skeptical, we do believe that when a child specifically asks for help it is important to pay heed and consult with a specialist.

Parents and individual clients are often apprehensive or uncomfortable with the use of medication. Incase medication is needed it is a decision that is taken and implemented in consultation with the family or client. Medications and their effects are monitored closely to optimise the support they provide.

Parents occasionally like to meet with Dr Rastogi before bringing their child. We are happy to meet parent/s in arrangements they feel most comfortable with. However we are unable to provide diagnosis or recommendations for treatment without meeting the child.

The team at STEPS includes psychologists who work with individuals, children and families. We use a variety of techniques as we work with clients including Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Humanistic Therapy and Expressive Arts Based Therapy to name a few. Therapy sessions are typically weekly for 50 mins. Psychologists at STEPS work directly under the supervision of Dr Rastogi and together the team ensures treatment is addressing critical facets of the plan.

We offer consultations and treatment at STEPS in person and online. We prefer meeting clients in person however we recognise that this is not always possible due to geographic limitations or other factors. We also offer online therapy for children, online therapy for teenagers, online counselling for parenting and online therapy for young adults.
